During the days of Pitti Bimbo, Florence becomes child-friendly and comes alive with events, meetings, and workshops to talk about fashion and art, read stories and have fun together.

In collaboration with major museums and cultural institutions, bookstores, and other iconic places, the program "The City of Gentle Children" will share with the little ones many opportunities to satisfy their desire for discovery and play.
 
It all starts at the "heart" of Florence with events organized by Muse at Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Medici Riccardi ([email protected] 055-2768224).
The headquarters of the Florentine City Hall will host several themed meetings:
"Court Life" with a focus on fashion at the time of the Medici (January 18, 5 p.m.);
"To make a city you need a flower" (January 19, 5 p.m.);
"Painting in fresco" (January 20, 5 p.m.).

While in the palace that was the first residence of the Medici, the appointments are
"Piume" dance workshop for families with kids (7/10 years old). Curated by Dance Floor Kids (January 18 and January 19 at 5 p.m.)
"Medici Coat of Arms. Stories and Legends" (January 20 at 5 p.m.)
"Dance Floor Kids" (January. 19 and 20 at 5 p.m.).

At the Istituto degli Innocenti, children and teens can visit the exhibition dedicated to Escher and approach the artist's world through a workshop (January 18, 5 p.m. ages 4-7; January 19, 5 p.m.ages 8-11).

There is more art to enjoy at Palazzo Strozzi, where Olafur Eliasson's "In Your Time" exhibition is underway.

Two special meetings will be held here:
"Magic Kaleidoscopes" (January 18, 5:30 p.m.; ages 3-6)
"Light in Your Pocket" (January 19, 5:30 p.m.; ages 7-12).

At the Hzero Train Museum, "Imaginary Journeys," tours dedicated to families with children up to 10 years old, begin (January 20 at 5 p.m. and January 21 at 4 p.m.; reservations: www.vivaticket.com; 055 2989830). 

In the setting of the Kartell store in Florence, "One image, so many stories!" comes to life, a small exhibition of illustrations of books published by LupoGuido curated by Libreria Nani Pittori (January 21, h.16.00-18.30, via dei Pescioni 11/R, 055 2699120, [email protected]).

And again, many bookstores will host workshops and events: Farollo and Falpalà, Todo Modo Di Là, and Malaparte (all details in the events calendar). 

At the San Lorenzo Central Market, with "Eat Fashion," children can make shortbread cookies in the shape of clothes, decorated with icing, paints and sprinkles. (January 18, 6 p.m.; ages 6-12; [email protected]).

Finally, at Polimoda, the " Junior Fashion Lab" invites aspiring fashion designers, aged 6 to 11, to show their creative potential (January 18, 2-5 p.m., reservations at polimoda.com).
