What are Shan and Toad customers looking for today?
[They] are always on the lookout for the hottest kidswear on the market. When buying, I focus on emerging trends and designers and always get excited to introduce the newest and cutting-edge styles and brands.  That is why it is great to visit a fair like Pitti, so that we can be introduced to brands from all over the world.  Being that we are on the kidswear market, we place equal focus on comfort and wearability. After all, we are in the business of dressing kids and we want to make sure our collections are cool and comfy all at once.
What are the most exciting kidswear trends?
One tried and true trend that has been relevant for a while and doesn’t seem to be going away, are graphic motifs. Especially in kidswear, this concept makes the products fun, engaging, and amusing. Sustainability is also trending now, and rightfully so. Being that we are in the business of fashion, it seems to be contradictory, and I feel it is my duty to select brands that manufacture responsibly and ethically.
How do you select products for Shan and Toad?
Being a mom, primarily, I like to think of myself as an intuitive buyer.  I select products based on what I get excited about, and what I would buy for my kids.  I think the style of our website is distinctly my own.  I imagine similar boutique shops, like mine, with the owner being the buyer would each have their own unique style, and shoppers might gravitate to one or the other.
I tend to go overboard when buying as kidswear is becoming more and more creative and innovative and I can’t seem to hold myself back from all of the beautiful things.
What would you like to see more of in contemporary childrenswear?
I would love to see more artisanal and handiwork. There are so many ancient crafts and trades that are making their way back into fashion. It would be interesting to see that in kidswear too.  These products might be less commercial as they tend to be more expensive and one-of-a-kind, but it could be cool to have a selection on the website for shoppers that are looking for something super special.
How are online sales evolving?
Thankfully, online sales seem to be rebounding to levels prior to the start of the pandemic. Let’s hope that they continue in this upward trend.  Winning products are now the casual, easy-to-wear pieces.  Trendy, yet playful is the vibe right now.
Are you planning to open a physical store?
We have no plans at this time, although who knows what the future may bring.
What are you hoping to find at Pitti Bimbo?

I expect to see a more concise edit of kidswear than usual. Collections might be fewer, but the quality and creativity will be stronger than ever.

What, in your view, makes the Pitti experience so unique?
Pitti is by far the largest trade fair.  What makes it unique is the mix of premium brands along-side smaller, emerging designers. That is what makes it the most relevant and important trade fair for buyers like me.
