Carly Glendinning is the editor of parenting magazine Absolutely Mama and lives just out-side London with her husband and family. For our Little Chats series, she told us about in-spiring children’s fashion brands, looking forward to hugging her sister and even baking a gi-ant cookie cake to celebrate a special occasion.
What fashion trends do you like most for this season?
I think the pandemic has made us all stop and think about our consumption. I’ve been really happy to see a shift towards slow and sustainable brands and I hope this will be a lasting change. With more time on our hands, people have also been having fun with crafts at home. I love all the arty influences that are coming out of that – such as natural tie-dye.
Which children’s fashion brands have inspired you lately?
Oh gosh, there’s so many I love! This season’s collaboration between Organic Zoo and Little Beacon is really lovely. I’m a big fan of Little Beacon’s prints and Organic Zoo is one of my favorite places to shop for my niece (who is 9 months old). Beautiful nature-inspired prints, a muted (unisex!) color palette, and the softest organic cotton – it’s a winning combo in my book.
What have you been watching/reading/listening to?
I’ve just finished watching ‘Modern Love’ on Amazon Prime. Each episode is inspired by a real-life personal essay from the New York Times column of the same name. It’s funny, sweet, heartwarming and some of it is a bit sad too.
I’ve just started reading Outline by Rachel Cusk. It’s written as a collection of conversations where a varied cast of characters tell their life stories. I’m only pages in – but I think it’s go-ing to be one of those books that makes you ponder life and human nature.
And I’m listening to seventies soul. Anything that will get us up and dancing around the kitchen! Al Green, The Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye – such an amazing time for music.
Tell us about something fun you did with your family recently.
My husband had his birthday in lockdown. We’d normally go away, but as that wasn’t an op-tion I tried to make it special with little things. I’m not much of a baker (I’m a liberal cook and hate measuring ingredients out!) but one of the things I did was make him a giant cookie cake as he has a terrible sweet tooth.
What’s one thing you look forward to?
I’m looking forward to visiting my sister in Tokyo. I miss her very much and unfortunately we can’t be together for her 30th this summer. We talk every day though and the hugs will be so good when we finally do get to see each other.
